Recipes & uses
Turmeric being an ingredient in mustard does have a slightly mustard like taste with some dishes & it will give your food a yellow/golden color. So try not to overload a dish until you figure out your preference on amount & taste. Using raw coconut oil to cook with & to mix in with Turmeric in food creates a tasty & healthy balance of the spiciness & the slightly nuttiness.
4 chicken breast with or without the skin & bone
2 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon natural unrefined salt (like Pink Himalayan)
1 teaspoon white or black pepper
2 tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley
2 tablespoons of fresh chopped green onions
Juice from 1/2 a lemon or lime
3 tablespoon room temp raw coconut oil
in a bowl whisk together the turmeric, salt, pepper, parsley, onions, lemon juice & coconut oil. Add the chicken pieces & work them in the mixture evenly making sure to coat the chicken. sit the bowl in the fridge & allow the chicken to marinade for at least an hour.
Cook on a greased baking sheet in the oven on 350 for 20 to 50 minutes making sure to not let chicken dry out. You can also cook this chicken on the stop top in a pan or on a grill. Optional: sprinkle more turmeric on the chicken half way through cooking & use a brush to wipe on more coconut oil. This same method can be used for fish or other meats as well, adjusting or changing the spices as desired.
Recently shared with my fans a couple of our favorite ways to eat turmeric on homemade healthy snacks, fresh popped stove top popcorn & baked seeds. These are great family friendly snacks that kids love to help make & they are healthy too.
Popcorn: A healthy TV night snack: Stove top pop corn, made with raw coconut oil, then mixed with a real butter & a real olive oil combo, natural unrefined pink Himalayan salt added to taste, then just a light sprinkle of Turmeric added & mixed in. Everything used in this snack gave my family a healthy kick to their immune system. This snack is a great way to get Coconut oil, olive oil, & Turmeric in your kids.
Roasted fresh squash or pumpkin seeds: These are also cooked with raw coconut oil in the oven Spread on baking sheet & sprinkle with natural unrefined pink Himalayan salt & Turmeric powder & cook till golden. Other options to add would be fresh lemon juice, Bragg vinegar, fresh chopped garlic. Use your imagination & make a great healthy snack that’s tasty & gives the immune system a boost & as a plus this totally homemade snack has none of the junk in store-bought so called healthy or natural snacks.
Brushing your teeth: Did you know that turmeric is great to brush your teeth & gums with, it can heal sores & abscesses & stop bleeding gums & other issues plus it is a great teeth whitener. You can simply sprinkle turmeric on your toothpaste or wet toothbrush & brush, or you can mix with raw coconut oil & baking soda, works best if allowed to sit several minutes. (check here for more info)
Treating wounds on people & animals: I simply mix 1 tbsp. raw coconut oil, 1 tbsp. wheat germ oil & 1/2 tsp. organic turmeric, mix & apply as needed (for animals you need to reapply often)
Skin care: I made several awesome skin masks using turmeric I just love. You can add just a bit in with natural bentonite clay before adding liquid to make a mask & apply to face. Other great items to make a face mask or wash face with that turmeric worked well mixed with: oatmeal, baking soda, borax, Epsom salt, salt, raw honey, raw coconut oil, olive oil, lemon juice (more skin care ideas here). Turmeric can also just be mixed with water or other liquid such as colloidal silver or witch hazel & applied to skin. My daughter loves mixing it with argan oil & aloe vera gel & leaving on her face 20 or so minutes. Wash off with warm water & use baking soda if needed to remove any remaining color.
Oil pulling: I do oil pull for 20 minutes every day (see here) but I have not yet tried turmeric in oil puling, I read about it & it sounds great but most add it the last 5 minutes of oil pulling, some have it added the whole 20 minutes. remember both oil pulling & turmeric are great for oral health & teeth whitening as well as great detoxifiers.
Other uses: In my research I have also found many using turmeric for heartburn, stomach ulcers, gallstones, wounds (great to stop bleeding) eczema, to aid digestion, regulate menstruation, toothache, general pain, inflammation, to cauterize a wound (stop the bleeding) & more. You can add it to warm milk of choice, take with raw coconut oil, add to capsules.
The only 2 raw/virgin/organic coconut oils I trust & recommend at this time to get the desired benefits from oil pulling & taking are: Skinny Coconut oil, the only Medicinal grade Extra Virgin coconut oil 100% pure – Tropical Traditions Virgin Gold Label Coconut oil.
